Role Description

This is a full-time, exempt, benefited position within the Simple Mills’ manufacturing and quality team. This position will report to the Director of Quality Assurance and will be responsible for supporting the Quality department in the day-to-day execution and adherence to the Quality Management and Food Safety System at Simple Mills. Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Director of Quality Assurance in maintaining high Quality and Food Safety standards by assisting with facility management, document management, program development and laboratory testing
  • Managing the Corrective Action/Preventive action program for all inputs (Supplier, plant and consumer complaints)
  • Assisting the Director of QA with the execution of the Supplier Management Program
    • Scheduling and communication
    • Audit execution
    • Document management
    • Audit closure
  • Assisting in the identification and achievement of facility Quality KPIs through appropriate corrective/preventative actions and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensuring facility compliance to meet food safety and quality objectives
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of new quality systems
  • Analyzing internal sensory panel studies according to protocols
  • Managing lab equipment calibration and the retain sample library
  • Evaluating retain samples to confirm compliance to Simple Mills internal specifications and maintaining database of results
  • Setting up and executing product quality evaluations, this includes; physical set-up of product evaluation, measurement of product attributes, evaluation of sensory attributes, data collection and data reporting
  • Understanding and identifying non-conforming raw materials, semi-finished and finished goods
  • Partnering with 3rd party laboratories to set up testing requirements and manage results
  • Overseeing the receipt of shipments of product samples and ingredients from manufactures and warehouse
  • Managing the Simple Mills Certificate of Analysis (COA) program
  • Assisting with customer complaint data analysis and reviews by maintaining appropriate records, retains and follow up completion
  • Responsible for developing and analyzing Quality reports
  • Monitors, records, and verifies Quality related documents
  • Performs other projects as assigned

 Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science preferred (Chemistry, Food Science, etc.)
  • Minimum of 4 years’ comprehensive food safety and quality experience with an extensive background in manufacturing food industry, HACCP, USDA or FDA preferred.
  • Previous experience with GFSI scheme and FDA audits.
  • Preferred certifications: CQA (Certified Quality Auditor), PCQI, HACCP, SQF practitioner and/or other GFSI scheme, Food Defense Coordinator.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other applications as needed
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and must also effectively manage and execute changes
  • Position requires ability to act as a member of a highly functioning team
  • Good communication, writing, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Intermediate PowerPoint, and strong Excel skills (ability to structure and analyze data, manipulate pivot tables, create trackers, and utilize basic functions)
  • Ability to complete other projects as assigned and needed
  • The position requires 20 – 40% travel
