Associate Winemaker

Position: Associate Winemaker

Summary
Jenny Dawn Cellars is an award-winning wine production facility and tasting room at Union Station in Wichita, KS. We are currently seeking an Associate Winemaker to assist us in doubling our case volume year-over-year for the next 2 years. The position will report to our, Founder, CEO and Head Winemaker. This position is full-time, salaried and a trainee role. The compensation is commensurate with experience.

Training Schedule:
This position will have 3 weeks of training where you will work one-on-one with our Head Winemaker. The training schedule is:
·       January 3rd – January 7th
·       January 10th – 14th
·       January 17th – 21st

The hours during this time will be 8:30AM – 5:30PM with lunch from 12PM – 1PM.
The candidate must be able to attend an all-day conference on January 15th in Lawrence, KS.

Regular Schedule

Starting on January 23rd the hours will be:

Sunday: 1:30PM – 6:30PM
Monday: 8:30AM – 7:30PM
Tuesday: 8:30AM – 7:30PM
Wednesday: 8:30AM – 7:30PM
Thursday: 8:30AM – 12:30PM


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist with the production of premium wines for Jenny Dawn Cellars.
• Willingness to learn all aspects of winemaking.
• Lead the cleaning and sanitizing of all tanks, totes, barrels, filtration system and winemaking equipment.
• Assist with filtering the wines and making sure the wine are ready for bottling.
• During harvest season, assist with the crushing, destemming and pressing of the fruit and grapes.
• Assist with starting fermentation and monitoring fermentations.
• Electronically document all winemaking records, fermentation schedules and wine recipes on the Jenny Dawn Cellars share drive.
• Complete bottling reports and file in winemaking binder.
• Conduct research on barrel aging of red wines
• Monitor status and conduct weekly wines inventory documentation at Jenny Dawn Cellars.
• Assist with wine tastings, events and tradeshows to brand and market the Jenny Dawn Cellars wines.
• Work as a backup server when necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the CEO.

Qualifications
•    A passion for wine, willingness to learn, and the ability to work under the direct supervision of our Head Winemaker
• A Bachelor's degree in a science-related field, such as Chemistry, Enology, Biology or Food Science

• Willingness to take Enology courses online through UC Davis or another prominent wine school as well as taking wine seminars at Highland Community College.

•The ability to work in all types of temperatures and weather conditions. Wine projects can take place both indoors and outdoors where temperatures can range from cold to hot depending on the season.
• Full body mobility. Ability to stand, walk, bend, sit, use tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, kneel.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Regularly required to roll, move, and/or lift 60-gallon empty wine barrels when needed.
•Ability to work for extended periods of time at a computer.
•   Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
•  Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills
•   History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct, as well as fitness to be licensed, permitted, and/or certified by state and/or local regulatory bodies.
•   Minimum age requirement of 21 years old.
